Prime Mill and Optimill with complex power management system

The Woodward easYgen-3500-XT was utilized in a complex power management project for United Plantation at Ulu Bernam. The project required the Prime Mill and Optimill, located one kilometre apart, to load share and provide backup power when necessary. The easYgen-3500XT was used as an all-in-one, multi-function, and economically sustainable solution for genset control, including engine start/stop, Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) operation, synchronization, logic programming, and genset protection. Additionally, the Woodward LS-5 was integrated with the easYgen-3400/3500 to manage synchronization, loading, and unloading on each bus segment. This combination of controls allowed for the management of complex power applications with multiple incoming utilities, bus tie-breakers, and gensets while providing protection for all segments. The project successfully enabled the Optimill’s 2.8 MW steam turbine generators (2 units), 1.1 MW steam turbine generator (1 unit), and 800KW diesel engine to load share with the Prime Mill’s 1.2MW steam turbine generators (2 units), 1MW Biogas engine (1 unit), and the utility mains (when needed) via fibre optic. The project was challenging but ultimately a satisfying achievement for the team.
